About HUE/ND

The Historic Urban Environments Lab (HUE/ND) at Notre Dame is an interdisciplinary team of architects, computer scientists, librarians, programmers, anthropologists and GIS specialists whose goal is to create new tools linking traditional library resources with new technologies. Building off of previous digital projects created by the Architecture Library, the Seaside Research Portal, SPQR-ND, and Building South Bend the team is currently working on several web sites and applications to better study the built environment virtually by linking historic content and traditional library resources with geo-location and digital technologies.

The HUE/ND team is grateful for the support and partnership of the American Academy in Rome and especially the Arthur & Janet C. Ross Library who provided access to the collections held in the Barbara Goldsmith Rare Book Room and to the Bibliotecha Hertziana for providing digitization services. This project was generously funded by the University of Notre Dame Office of Research, the Nanovic Institue for European Studies, the University of Notre Dame School of Architecture, the Notre Dame Office of Digital Learning, and private donations.

Jennifer Parker has been the Architecture Librarian at Notre Dame since the summer of 2008. Her research interests include the use and incorporation of early European and American architectural publications into contemporary architectural studies and the intersection of new technologies and traditional library resources. More specifically she looks for new ways to provide access to specialized library collections through new technologies allowing users to take rare materials out of the confines of the library space. She has previously led the creation of the Seaside Research Portal, SPQR-ND, and Building South Bend: Past, Present & Future.
